Michael
told me how the blacksmithing process involves "drawing out"
or "upsetting" or "expanding" the metal at white
heat to make an object. I realized how what I did also required
the expanding and upsetting of energy - my own and the material's.
I intensely agitated the tray of developer and danced around the
darkroom turning lights on and off to draw out the images.
